Getlink secures €55m insurance payout for ElecLink operating losses

Getlink, the company that manages and operates the Channel Tunnel infrastructure between France and the United Kingdom, has reached an agreement with its insurers for approximately €55 million in compensation for ElecLink’s operating losses following a suspension of activity in late 2024.

The disruption was triggered by a fault on the ElecLink electricity interconnector, an underwater high‑voltage cable that links the French and UK power grids through the Channel Tunnel.

Operations were suspended between 25 September 2024 and 5 February 2025 as a safety precaution while repairs were carried out.

Subsequent technical tests revealed a second related fault, extending the repair period beyond initial expectations.

Work to restore the cable allowed the interconnector to be gradually brought back into service from 5 February 2025.

During the suspension, ElecLink was unable to generate revenue, resulting in significant operating losses.

Under the insurance agreement, Getlink will receive €55 million in compensation, of which €5 million had already been accounted for in the first half of 2025.

The full amount will be recognised in the company’s consolidated financial statements for 2025.
