Munich Re Specialty, part of the insurance operations of global reinsurer Munich Re, has announced the joining of Lloyd’s veteran Chris Mackinnon to expand its presence in Australia.
The appointment is subject to all regulatory approvals. As part of his responsibilities, Mackinnon will establish and build out a local market presence for Munich Re Specialty in Australia in the first half of 2026.
Mackinnon currently serves as Lloyd’s Regional Director Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa, based in Singapore.
He has a career spanning three decades with experience across broking, sales, strategy, operations, regulation, compliance, and management in London, Singapore and Sydney.
Mackinnon has served with Lloyd’s for over a decade. His past roles include Deputy Regional Director, Asia Pacific, Middle East & Africa and Regional Head of Australia & New Zealand, and Lloyd’s General Representative in Australia.
He was also a Non-Executive Director of the Insurance Council of Australia for over six years, and Associate Director of the Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC) for over nine years.
Mackinnon started his career as an Account Executive at broker Marsh in 1988, eventually moving on to serve as a Principal at Aon Professional Risks, Managing Director and Executive Director, Strategy & Development for Arthur J. Gallagher, and as Chief Executive Officer of Gow-Gates Insurance Brokers.
