MSIG Europe announces leadership transition as Patrick Smolka prepares to depart

MSIG Europe SE, a recognised provider of P&C and marine insurance solutions across the continent, has announced an upcoming shift within its senior underwriting team.

msig-logoPatrick Smolka, who has served as one of MSIG Europe’s Chief Underwriting Officers, will step down from his position on 31 December 2025 for personal reasons. Over the years, he has played a central role in advancing underwriting expertise across the business and supporting its strategic priorities.

Beginning 1 January 2026, Herbert Baeten will assume full responsibility for the underwriting division. MSIG Europe has confirmed that its strategic direction will continue as planned, with no impact resulting from the leadership change.

In the official announcement, CEO Klaus M. Przybyla stated: “I would like to sincerely thank Patrick for the excellent cooperation, his tireless dedication and the many valuable contributions over the past seven and a half years. Throughout his tenure, Patrick has played an important role in developing MSIG in Europe, executing our strategic priorities and strengthening our market position. I wish him all the best for his future.”

Baeten, who has been working closely with Smolka, expressed confidence in a smooth and steady transition as he prepares to take on the role. “I have worked very closely with Patrick over the past year and a half and we have always acted in complete consensus.”
