Descartes Underwriting, a specialist in corporate parametric insurance solutions for climate and emerging risks, has promoted Ben Qin to Head of Asia Pacific (APAC) and WeeBeng Seow as the Head of Southeast (SE) Asia.
The parametric specialist is adopting a centralised service model to deliver consistent, regionally aligned support to its broker partners across the APAC region.
In the new role, Qin will oversee Descartes’ operations across all APAC markets, providing tailored solutions to meet the needs of brokers and their clients.
He brings 18 years of hands-on insurance experience across multiple APAC economies, enhancing Descartes’ ability for cross-market growth and delivery of tailored risk solutions.
Most recently, he served as Descartes’ Head of North Asia and Australia, leading the establishment of the Sydney office four years ago, followed by the launch of the Hong Kong and Tokyo offices two years later.

Before this, Qin spent over eight years at Marsh, the insurance broker and risk advisor within Marsh McLennan, where he led the Alternative Risk Transfer function for Asia Pacific during his final four years.

Seow will support Qin as the Head of Southeast Asia. Seow joined the Descartes Singapore office three years ago as Business Development Director and has leveraged his extensive broker network and experience to further expand the firm’s value proposition with broking partners throughout Southeast Asia and with the rest of the Descartes APAC team.
Seow added, “It is an exciting time to step into this role as we continue to grow our presence across Southeast Asia, and I look forward to working closely with our broker partners to deliver innovative parametric solutions that truly respond to the region’s evolving risk landscape.”
